Karl Friedrich Schinkel (Neuruppin, 13 March 1781 - Berlin, 9 October 1841) was one of the most important German architects. He was also a painter and draftsman, urban planner, set and furniture designer. He knew the history of architecture - a scientific discipline on the rise around that time - and designed in both classical and Gothic style without imitating existing buildings. Most of his works are located in Berlin and the surrounding area (source: Wikipedia).
